Inspired by a trip to Portugal, where freshly harvested cork was stacked at the base of the trees, the cut bark piled high into what the Portuguese call pilhas de cortiça, cork piles.

Pilha is a modular cork shelving and furniture system built around simplicity, customisation, and the natural qualities of the material.

Connected by steel staples pushed into the cork wherever needed, the modules can form everything from side tables and shelves to room dividers and office partitions.

The spaces formed within the structure naturally trap and dissipate sound, making use of cork’s acoustic properties.

The piece started and ended as pilhas de cortiça.
